What is a Plate Pasteurizer?
A plate pasteurizer is a continuous sterilization equipment designed to process liquids. It is composed of a plate heat section, heat holding (sterilizing) section, cooling section, material reflux section, material balance tank and material pump, CIP pump, hot water tank and hot water pump, steam valves group, electronic control cabinet, and pipes, pumps, and valves system.
The plate heat exchanger is the core component of the plate pasteurizer. Depending on the material, the plate heat exchanger can be designed to be W-shaped, vertical, or horizontal type to meet the heat treatment of materials with different viscosities. The plate heat exchanger system consists of a preheating section, a temperature holding section, a cooling section, and a heat recovery section. When processing pasteurized milk, the heat recovery can be as high as 90% or more.
The material feeding system mainly comprises a material balance tank, a feeding pump, a feeding pipeline, and valve parts. The tank is made of AISI 304 material and is equipped with a liquid level gauge, CIP cleaning ball, material inlet and outlet, etc. The feeding pump is usually fitted with a centrifugal pump or a rotary pump according to the material’s viscosity; its function is to transport the material in the balance tank to the plate heat exchanger for heat treatment.
The control system includes material heating temperature control, feed tank liquid level control, feed flow control, steam pressure, and pH value control. Various sensors, flow meters, and controllers are used to monitor and control these parameters. Through the flow meter, the sensor signal is fed back to the controller to realize the coordination of multiple material parameters and complete the pasteurization process.
The pipelines mainly include material feeding pipelines, hot water pipelines, steam pipelines, cold water pipelines or ice water pipelines, CIP pipelines, etc. Pressure gauges, thermometers, etc.
Plate Pasteurizer Advantages
Plate pasteurizers offer many advantages over other sterilization methods. To ensure material hygiene and safety, materials and heating media are heated in sealed systems through a non-contact heat exchanger. The sterilization time is short, which can ensure that the nutritional ingredients of the material are not damaged. The whole machine is made of food-grade stainless steel to meet the national safety and health requirements for beverage and food equipment. It has a high-performance heat transfer effect, high heat recovery rate, and low energy consumption, and the main control components, valves, and parts are all imported parts. The PLC control can be used to automatically control the heating temperature, hot water temperature, and steam flow adjustment of each section of the material, and an automatic material return system is provided to ensure that the material reaches a 100% sterilization effect. In addition, the plate pasteurizer is simple in structure, easy to clean, convenient to operate, and low in maintenance cost.

Tubular Heat Exchangers: Usage & Working Principle
Heat exchangers are devices used to transfer or exchange heat or thermal energy. As a type of heat exchanger, a Tubular Heat Exchanger is one of the most used in industrial processes due to its multiple advantages. In this article, we will discuss its usage, working principle, applications, and benefits.
A Tubular Heat Exchanger is an air-to-air heat exchanger operating on the principle of forced draught convection. Process gases pass over the outside surfaces of the heat exchanger elements and cooling air is generated from ambient air by axial or centrifugal fans. This promotes the exchange of heat. The maximum inlet temperature of the heat exchanger is 550°C.
The design of the Tubular Heat Exchanger eliminates the risk of mixing between the product and the heating or cooling medium, thanks to its double tube sheet design. Product flows in the tubes while the service fluid flows around the tubes inside the shell. This allows for the service fluid to be sealed in the shell by one tube sheet and the product in the second tube sheet.
Tubular Heat Exchangers are especially efficient in the pharmaceutical industry as they control microbe growth and prevent cross-contamination. The smaller and lighter-weight heat exchangers designed for tight spaces use the same hot and cold fluid flows through alternating channels that create high turbulence for high heat transfer efficiency and use 50–80% less heat transfer area.
The advantages of Tubular Heat Exchangers are low maintenance cost, high working pressure and temperature, processing of particulate, easy inspection and disassembly, high security in aseptic processes and easy enlargement. The main applications of Tubular Heat Exchangers include sanitary applications for the Food Industry, Pharmaceutical applications, and industrial applications for the Chemical and Petrochemical Industry.
The working principle of Tubular Heat Exchangers involves the exchange of heat between two different types of mediums. The hot fluid enters the heat exchanger through one side and the cold fluid enters through the other. The two fluids will then flow in opposite directions and the heat is transferred from the hot fluid to the cold fluid. This is known as counter flow heat exchange.
When it comes to choosing Tubular Heat Exchangers, Hommak is the perfect choice. Our high-quality heat exchangers provide optimum heat transfer and energy efficiency, as well as improved safety and reliability. We also offer competitive prices and superior customer service.
